Can my 8 year old play 9U?

  • NPYBA has strict age regulations set by our league, with that said we prefer to have the boys play with their grade.  If your 8 year old is in 3rd grade the school year leading up to the season they should play 9U.  For more details refer to what Level should by son play. If your 8 year old is in 2nd grade, they can try out for 9U, but priority is given to 3rd graders for more details refer to 9U-15U page.  NPYBA has an 8U Rookie League for 2nd graders.

Can my son tryout for a higher age level?

  • NPYBA encourages all players to play with their age (grade) group.  If a family would like their son to play with a higher age group, the player will need to try out with their age group AND the age group they would like to move up to.  To be eligible to move up the player will need to rank in the top five players of both age groups during tryouts.
  • On rare occasions, NPYBA will move up a player because of registration numbers.  If this happens NPYBA will contact the family in advance of announcing teams to discuss the options with the family.
